Prof. Gao is an assistant professor of the Department of Sport and Physical Education, Hong Kong Baptist University. She was trained as a doctor in Preventive Medicine in the Chinese Mainland and got her PhD in Public Health (CUHK, Hong Kong). Prof. Gao teaches research and health related courses. She is also a PhD supervisor and a co-coordinator of the Honours Project for undergraduates. Except for teaching, Prof. Gao is also an active researcher. Her research interests include common non-communicable diseases (such as obesity and injury), and health determinants (such as physical activity). She has been proactively involved in studies with diverse study designs (including epidemiological study, cohort study, intervention, systematic review, meta-analysis) and published more than 50 articles in international peer-reviewed journals. Currently, Prof. Gao is leading a GRF project and a HCPS (under HMRF) project.  In terms of professional services, Prof. Gao is serving as a member of the Standing Committee of Injury Prevention and Control Branch, Chinese Preventive Medical Association (China), a member of the Standing Committee of Child Injury Working Group, Injury Prevention and Control Branch, Chinese Preventive Medical Association (China), a member of the Hong Kong Society of Behavioral Health, and a member of the Hong Kong Epidemiological Association. She is sitting in the editorial board of two peer-reviewed journals (Cogent Medicine and Injury Medicine). In addition, Prof. Gao is the President of the Hong Kong Alumni Association of the Sun Yat-sen Medical University (2019-2022) and a director of the Council of the SYSU United Alumni Association (Hong Kong) (2018-2021).
